Covering the movies is indeed a dream for many aspiring writers. Join us in this exclusive programme with three esteemed panelists who have found their calling writing about films. The session will cover topics related to motivation and sustaining one’s passion for writing, different kinds of content and styles of writing for film, skills needed to tackle different forms of film writing such as reviews, interviews or behind-the-scenes features, the role of film writers in the ecosystem, and the challenges of being a professional film correspondent or critic in the digital world. There will also be a Q&A where participants can share their questions with the panelists, so don’t miss this special opportunity to pick the brains of these experienced speakers!
John is Senior Correspondent with The Straits Times, covering films for the Life! section. He joined the ST in 1993, working the general news and crime beats, before joining its lifestyle section Life!. He wrote on Web and technology news for various publications during the Internet boom of the early 2000s before returning to Life! as a film reviewer and features writer in 2008. He also writes a regular column in The Sunday Times.
Silvia is a veteran journalist. She is currently a foreign correspondent for UK trade publication Screen International and its website Screendaily.com. She has also moved behind the camera as a film producer, screenwriter and festival consultant.
Jedd is a film writer who has contributed to publications including F*** Magazine and InSing. He can be heard as a weekly guest on the radio program Josh’s Goodnight Kiss on Kiss 92 FM, and has interviewed Hollywood celebrities including Tom Hanks, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland and Emma Stone. He has also spoken at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
ET is one of Singapore’s most prolific film writers, having penned more than 1,700 reviews since 2007. He won Best Individual Blog at the 2015 Singapore Blog Awards, running his site (www.eternalitytan.com) independently. He is also an adjunct lecturer of film studies at the Nanyang Technological University and Nanyang Polytechnic, co-founder of The Filmic Eye, programmer of film festivals with the Singapore Film Society, and an executive producer of short films.
